DANVILLE, Va. òòò½ÊÓƵ” Tri-State started its hot streak against Appalachian League teams ranging from around .500 to well below it.
The Coal Cats continued it Thursday against the circuitòòò½ÊÓƵ™s top team.
Tri-State scored first in the first inning and kept piling on en route to a 9-2 victory over Danville at Dan Daniel Memorial Park.
Isaac Turner (UNC Asheville) drove in three runs, Gavin Johnson (Gardner-Webb) knocked in two and Kenyon Collins (a 2024 Cabell Midland graduate bound for Marshall) threw five strong innings for the Coal Cats.
Johnson was 3 for 5 to pace Tri-State (17-21), which won for the seventh time in eight games.
CJ Richard (Ohio State), Jorge Gonzalez-Febo (Bethune-Cookman) and Ryan Limerick (California) chipped in two hits each.
Seven Coal Cats had at least one of Tri-Stateòòò½ÊÓƵ™s 12 hits. Gonzalez-Febo hit a solo home run in the third inning.
Richard, Limerick and Trent Adelman (Virginia Commonwealth) scored two runs apiece for Tri-State.
Collins allowed one earned run on three hits in five frames of work to get the win. He had three strikeouts and three walks.
Bryce Dolby (Liberty), Joe Gomez (Virginia Commonwealth) and Drew DelCollo (Saint Peteròòò½ÊÓƵ™s) combined with Collins to four-hit the Otterbots (24-13).
Danville came in having won nine of its previous 11 games.
Addison Smith (Oklahoma State) went 2 for 3 for the Otterbots. Carrington Aaron (Virginia Tech) scored twice.
Starter Ty Parker took the decision for Danville. He yielded three runs, all earned, on four hits in two innings.
