HUNTINGTON òòò½ÊÓƵ” The Danville Otterbots made the most of their opportunities on Wednesday to beat the Tri-State Coal Cats 6-1 in Appalachian League baseball at Jack Cook Field.
Danville (27-15) had just two hits, a pair of home runs by Michael Callan Moss, in building a 6-0 lead. Callan Moss hit a solo homer in the first inning and two-run shot in the third. The Otterbots scored two runs on fielderòòò½ÊÓƵ™s choices and one on a sacrifice fly.
Tri-State (19-23) broke up the shutout when C.J. Richard scored on an error by Callan Moss.
Shawn Scott (5-1) was the winning pitcher. Evan Holewinski (3-2) took the loss.
Payne, Eggleton win on Senior Series
Two golfers from Hurricane, West Virginia, won on the WVGA Senior Series Tour Wednesday at the Grandview Country Club in Beaver, West Virginia.
Mark Eggleton shot 5-under par 67 to win the Silver Net title. Harold Payne fired a 75 to take the Silver Gross division.
Kenneth Zigmond of Logan, West Virginia, shot the low round of the day, a 66.
New Reds Hall of Fame chapter formed
Three local Cincinnati Reds Hall of Fame chapters have combined into one.
Chapters in Huntington, Ironton and Portsmouth, Ohio, have combined with one from Morehead, Kentucky, to form the Gene Bennett Hall of Fame and Museum Chapter in Portsmouth. Bennett was a longtime Reds scout from Wheelersburg, Ohio. Bennett signed former Reds stars Don Gullett, Barry Larkin, Paul Oòòò½ÊÓƵ™Neill and Chris Sabo, among others.
Bennett, 87, died in 2017.
The chapter is scheduled to be recognized at 2 p.m. Saturday in front of the Portsmouth floodwall baseball murals. Bennettòòò½ÊÓƵ™s daughter Cathy is set to attend, as is former Reds second baseman Ron Oester, who will be available for a meet and greet from 2:30 to 4 p.m. at Buffalo Wild Wings, 1611 Chillicothe St., Portsmouth.
Admission to the meet and greet costs $10 and includes a watch party for Cincinnatiòòò½ÊÓƵ™s 4:10 p.m. game with the Tampa Bay Rays.
