Marshall University President Brad. D. Smith was selected to co-chair the òòò½ÊÓƵ˜s Commission on Artificial Intelligence in Communication, according to a press release.
The Southern Regional Education Board, according to the release, works with states and school districts to improve education.
The commission is chaired by South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster and consists of more than 60 policymakers, education leaders and business executives across 16 states.
According to the release, the commissionòòò½ÊÓƵ™s purpose is to òòò½ÊÓƵœchart a courseòòò½ÊÓƵ on the use of artificial intelligence in classrooms and how to prepare a workforce for changes in technology. The commission will develop recommendations for Southern states for using AI in teaching K-12 and postsecondary students; developing policies in K-12 schools, colleges and universities; and prepare students for careers in AI.
The first meeting for the commission will be April 30 in Columbia, South Carolina. Members will hear from education experts and review related research and data.
