The U.S. Department of Agriculture announces a grant for redevelopment of the former ACF site to house the Marshall Advanced Manufacturing Center Welding and Robotics Training Center on July 11, 2023, in Huntington.
HUNTINGTON òòò½ÊÓƵ” Design work on the last remaining building of the former ACF plant, which will be preserved and renovated for the Marshall Advanced Manufacturing Center, is currently 95% complete.
Current design for the building known for its sawtooth roof is substantially finished and now out for review by the state fire marshal, Huntington fire marshal, building inspectors and others, Cathy Burns, executive director of the Huntington Municipal Development Authority (HMDA), the city agency that owns the former ACF property, said in a written statement to The Herald-Dispatch Wednesday.
Once a final comment is received, the design will proceed to 100%. HMDA will then submit the design to its major funding source, the U.S. Economic Development Authority, for approval to place for bid, Burns said.
Burns said she is unable to give an accurate bid date, but she hopes the project will go out for public bid in 8-10 weeks.
The Marshall Advanced Manufacturing Center will use the additional space to add robotics and aerospace welding programs. The building also will allow the school to offer both nighttime and daytime classes. Currently, only night-time classes are offered due to the program using a high schoolòòò½ÊÓƵ™s welding center, Burns told The Herald-Dispatch in December.
The renovation is funded by a HUD Economic Development Initiative grant of $1,470,000, as well as $3.53 million from the U.S. Economic Development Administration and $1 million from the Huntington Municipal Development Authority.
